Dr. Herbert S. Birnbaum Named President of the American Academy of Dental Science
Dr. Herbert S. Birnbaum was recently named President of the American Academy of Dental Science for the year 2023.
In his new role, Dr. Birnbaum will assume leadership of all operations of the Academy, working with his fellow officers to bring in leading speakers, plan events, and ensure that the society functions properly in all its activities. Dr. Birnbaum is very honored to be at the helm of the first honorary dental society in the United States , founded as an advisory board 155 years ago by Dr. Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr. and the leading figures of dentistry, at a time when the profession was in its infancy. “I will do my very best to advance the mission and build on this precious legacy,” said Dr. Birnbaum.
He recently shared the honor of planning the first ever joint meeting of the first two dental societies in this country - the American Academy of Dental Science and the Harvard Odontological Society (of which he is a past president) - held at the Harvard Faculty Club, on November 2, 2022, and featuring Dr. Rick Valachovic, the President Emeritus of the American Dental Education Association, and Deans William Giannobile, Nadeem Karimbux and Cataldo Leone of the dental schools at Harvard, Tufts and Boston Universities, respectively. Below are some pictures of this memorable and special night.
